Maurice Brandman
I have Nitro Pro 8 at work and 11 at home. Both seem to work well. Nitro Pro 9 on my home PC was catastrophic since it did not include the virtual printer. Both PCs are Windows 7 professional 64b. Program installations are almost identical although the office PC is in the office LAN. What are the advantages of 11 over 8? 8 is working well, so should I upgrade it to 11? Official Nitronaut Leslie Villarin Posted May 19, 2017 Official Nitronaut Report Share Posted May 19, 2017 Hello Maurice, Thank you for reaching out to us through our Community Forums! A lot has been added from Nitro Pro 8 to Pro 9, to 10 and then to 11. This includes bug fixes and new features. You can find the documentation here: https://www.gonitro.com/support/downloads Regarding Nitro Pro 9 not having a virtual printer, Microsoft applied a security update (KB3170455) for Windows, related to print spoolers. This update changed the way in which Microsoft allowed drivers to install. This Microsoft change had a carry on effect of blocking the installation of the Nitro PDF print driver. This print driver is responsible for many key features of Nitro Pro, such as the Office plug-ins and the Create PDF feature. In order to rectify this issue, our Nitro Pro developers have released updates to version 10 and 11. You could install Nitro Pro 11 as a trial (alongside your current installation), just to use the PDF creator. The Creator will remain after the trial has finished. Please note that this does not change your workflow at all, apart from having to choose Nitro PDF Creator (Nitro Pro 11) as the printer when printing to PDF. Here is where you can get it: https://www.gonitro.com/pro/try Please use Nitro Pro 9 for everything else. I hope this answers your questions. Cheers! Maurice Brandman
Oddly the print spooler function with my v8 installation works fine. So why should I change? BTW I have a license for personal use on 2 machines so I could install 11 on that machine at no extra cost. I need other reasons to upgrade from 8 to 11. Power User Steven Zakulec Posted May 22, 2017 Power User Report Share Posted May 22, 2017 Here's the new feature lists for Nitro 10 & 11: Nitro 10: http://kb.gonitro.com/knowledgebase#/answers/Nitro Pro/000001876 Nitro 11: http://kb.gonitro.com/knowledgebase#/answers/Nitro Pro/000002288 Other reasons you might want to upgrade to Nitro 11: You want an officially supported version (8 isn't under support any more) You want security updates (or any updates) You want Windows 10/ Office 2013/2016 compatibility (Nitro 8 may work on those versions, but Nitro 11 is tested officially against those versions) Hope this helps!
